Thoracic discectomy removes herniated disc material in the mid-back when it compresses a nerve or the spinal cord. The rib cage and spinal cord make surgical planning particularly important.
PROCEDUREThoracic Kyphoplasty
Kyphoplasty treats selected vertebral compression fractures. A balloon creates a space within the fractured vertebra, followed by placement of bone cement to provide support.
PROCEDUREThoracic Vertebroplasty
Vertebroplasty places bone cement into a selected fractured vertebra to provide support. Unlike kyphoplasty, it does not use a balloon to create the cement space.
